As part of International Women’s Day 2026 – “Give to Gain: Women and Livelihoods: Building Equitable Futures,” hosted by Sulabh International, Session 1: Women, Ecology and Livelihood explored the vital connection between women, natural resources, dignity, and sustainable development. Moderated by Ms. Nirja Bhatnagar, Director – Program, Policy & Advocacy, Sulabh International Social Service Organisation, the discussion highlighted how women remain central to agriculture, caregiving, community resilience, and environmental stewardship, yet their work and leadership often remain under-recognised. The session featured insights from Dr. Vaishali Patil (Tribal Women’s Rights Activist, Maharashtra), Dr. Ritu Dewan (Professor & Director (R), Mumbai School of Economics & Public Policy, University of Mumbai), Smt. Nisha Madan Jha (President, Chetna Samiti, Patna; Former Advisor, Ministry of Women & Child Development, Government of India), Ms. Madhu Baghel (Social Worker, Agra), Ms. Rashmi Mishra (Social and Political Activists), and Mr. Ashwin Bhosale (Director – HSE & Corporate Responsibility, Sodexo India), who reflected on women’s roles in ecological sustainability, sanitation, infrastructure, child development, and building resilient communities and economies. A key takeaway from the session was clear: equitable futures cannot be built without recognising women not just as beneficiaries of development, but as leaders and changemakers. #sulabh #sulabhinternational #kumardilip #nityapathak #givetogain #iwd2026
