In the hills of ancient Judah, where the vines and olives grow, Reigned a king of steady courage, with a heart as white as snow. Jehoshaphat, the son of Asa, walked in paths of truth and light, Leading people to the Temple, keeping God within their sight. But a shadow crossed the valley, news of war began to fly, Three great armies joined together, under Edom's burning sky. Moab, Ammon, and Mount Seir—a vast and terrifying horde, Marched to take the land of promise with the arrow and the sword. The King, he felt a tremor, and he bowed his royal head, "Gather all the sons of Judah! We must seek the Lord!" he said. Through the streets of old Jerusalem, the cry of fasting went, Till the mothers and the children at the Temple's gates were bent. "O Lord of our ancestors," prayed the King before the crowd, "We are powerless and small, while the enemy is proud. We do not know the way to go, our eyes are fixed on You!" Then a spirit moved a singer, and a word came piercing through. Young Jahaziel stood and shouted, "Hearken people, do not fear! The battle isn't yours to fight, for the Lord your God is here. Stand your ground and wait in silence, watch the victory take shape, For the hand that rules the heavens leaves the wicked no escape!" Early in the morning mist, the army marched to meet the foe, But no spears were at the front, and no archer drew a bow. Jehoshaphat had called the singers, dressed in robes of holy white, To march before the soldiers and to praise the God of Might. They sang a song of mercy, "Give your thanks unto the Lord! For His love endures forever, sharper than the double sword!" As the music hit the mountain, as the praise began to rise, Confusion struck the enemy beneath the desert skies. Moab turned on Ammon, and they fought with tooth and nail, Till the valley ran with blood, and the bravest hearts did fail. When the men of Judah reached the height to see the battle plain, Not a single foe was standing—all were numbered with the slain. Three long days they spent in gathering the jewels and the gold, More than all the carts of Judah and the horses' backs could hold. On the fourth day they assembled, giving blessings to the King of Kings, For the battle belongs to Him, and the soul that truly sings. So remember King Jehoshaphat, when the armies hem you in, That a song of faithful worship is the way you’re meant to win. For the Lord is still the Master, and His love is ever true, And the song that won the valley is the song He gives to you
