Hi Guys and Gals. I had an accident on the Ninja 1000sx the morning of March 7th. Some guy failed to stop at a stop sign and came right out in front of me. I was 25 to 30 yards (22.8 to 27.4 meters) away from the intersection travelling under 30 mph (48.3 kph) when the van pulled up to the stop sign. He didn't stop but continued through to the adjacent street. Thank goodness for practicing evasive maneuvers. I had three choices. Veer left, into oncoming traffic (hardly a choice). Stay in my lane, where any position in that lane would mean T-bone and solid contact. Or veer right onto the street where he's going and deflect off his van. I chose option 3. My bike was maybe at a 20-to-25-degree angle to his van when we made contact. Watch the video for more details. I am unharmed. My left shoulder and left side of my neck ached for a while after the adrenaline subsided, but a restful rest of the day and night worked wonders. Practice your evasive maneuvers guys and gals.
