Demonstration against ICE heats up at the Arch

Over 50 protesters gathered in front of Weber Arch to speak out against recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement activities on Friday morning at 9:00 a.m., despite freezing temperatures. The demonstration was part of a nationwide general strike protesting against recent federal immigration enforcement actions. Protestors called for participants to economically protest by abstaining from purchases and calling for the government to defund ICE, according to the Instagram account @startswiththis. The cold did not stop the protestors from chanting, waving signs and giving speeches throughout the demonstration’s three hours. Some cars honked their horns in support as they drove by. The group of protesters crossed Sheridan road multiple times during the demonstration, chanting “whose streets, our streets” among other chants.
