Peter Binsfeld, a German bishop and theologian, created a classification of demons based on the Seven Deadly Sins. According to this classification, there are Seven Princes of Hell who represent these sins. Lucifer, associated with pride, migrated from an ancient pagan deity of Venus to become a powerful demon in Christian mythology. Satan, associated with anger, points out the imperfect nature of humanity. Asmodeus, a god of warfare for the Persians, is associated with lust. Beelzebub, an ancient deity worshipped by the Phoenicians, is now considered a prince and associated with gluttony. Leviathan, described in the Bible as a large marine animal, represents envy. Belphegor, an ancient pagan deity worshipped by the Moabites, is associated with laziness. Mammon, representing the lust for wealth, is associated with greed. While there are other powerful demons in lists of demons, this classification does not include Astaroth and Belial, who were once powerful deities demonized as enemies of mankind. Each of these demons has a long and ancient history associated with their cult and worship.
