At Emperor, we take great pride and pleasure in uncovering lesser-known champagnes steeped in rich family history and expertise, skills and knowledge passed down from parent to child for generations. This month, we are delighted to introduce two new grower Champagne Houses to Australia: Collard-Picard Prestige and Maxime Blin Temporelle No.1, each offering cuvées never before seen in our country. Maison Collard-Picard boasts a profound lineage, with two Champagne families intertwining since 1889 to nurture and craft exceptional wines. With the Collard vines based in the Vallée de la Marne and Picard in the Côte des Blancs, the ancestral savoir-faire of these artisans has been passed down for generations. Central to their craft is genuine passion. Today, Olivier and Caroline Collard-Picard uphold this tradition, harmonising with nature and passionately caring for their wines with minimal intervention, embracing a natural approach. Similarly, for three generations, the Blin family have devoted themselves to cultivating a thriving champagne estate. In 1947, in Trigny, Robert Blin and his wife Juliette planted the winery’s first vines in the sandy soils of the east-facing hillside. Their son, Gilles, alongside his wife Madeleine, focused on vinification and building a press and vat room. In 2005, third generation, Maxime ushered in a new, modern perspective. With the help of his wife Claire, the delved into sustainable farming, hand harvesting and filtration with organic agents. Each successive generation has brought an innovative vision, building upon the expert foundations of their predecessors, resulting in wines of unparalleled quality: pristine champagnes full of heart and authentic flavours. The sheer passion, expertise and knowledge perpetually transferred from one generation to the next never fail to astound and inspire us. Winemaking is indeed an art – a craft that demands years of mastery and relentless pursuit of perfection. The fact that we can present two remarkable wines from true artisans is a testament to their individual aspirations and unwavering dedication to upholding traditions whilst embracing innovation and continual learning.
