Part 8 - The Outer Hebrides, Isle of Harris and Isle of Lewis Our 6 week motorhome tour of England, Scotland and Wales continues in the Outer Hebrides. This episode covers 3 days on Harris & Lewis, where we enjoy some Loch-side parking, enjoy a few games of Backgammon (hmmm). There are many 'proper' campsites in the area if that is your preference. If you've ever fancied trying overnight parking in a lay-by, these camping spots are an ideal 'off-grid' introduction in a safe environment. The views were incredible, we shared the layby with 2 other vans on the night we stayed there. Overnight parking is also allowed at Ardvoulie Woodland and Aline Woodland for a small charge, there are no services at either of these spots, but Aline does have a bin. The Loch-side parking spot at Callanish 8 has no overnight parking restrictions (but it's right on the corner of the road and only suitable for 6m or under in length) we didn't spend the night here - but it wouldn't have been a top choice for us. Uig Community Centre laundry was £15 for a large load wash and dry. (Sounds expensive, but you can fit in more clothes than a standard washing machine.. at a guess it's the equivalent of 2 loads) You do need to take your own laundry pods. It also has a well stocked shop with local produce (it's where we got the Bridies). "The Van" is a McLouis Fusion 331 (we haven't named it yet, and might not!!) and it is just the perfect size for the two of us on the road. This 6 week trip is a bit of a vanlife taster for us, we've only had the van for a few months and never been away in it for more than 3 nights at a time - before this big adventure. We had no idea if we'd make it, if we'd get on each others nerves or be pinning for our little luxuries!! This is the next chapter of our life together and we are very excited about all the places we can go! We are still settling into the Van and are still finding our way with what we need, but starting to settle in. Navigating the space, the issues, the fixes and everything else that newbie motorhomers get to deal with.
