Still, we left at 6am and arrived at Kiroro before the staff even opened up. We headed straight out the backcountry gate and started breaking trail. Lower down it looked average. Higher up, it just kept getting deeper. By our second lap it was neck deep — easily the deepest storm day of our season. Steep pitches, heavy sluff, full whiteout. Classic Hokkaido chaos. We squeezed in one last lap and got out early. Tired, grinning, already planning tomorrow.
