We built a greenhouse deck! When I picked up this budget friendly greenhouse from Ocean State Job Lots earlier this spring, we knew we would have to do something to stake it down because of the wind at the top of the hill we live on. We did not want it to blow away! That is when my dad suggested some kind of base or platform and my husband came up with an idea for a deck. I asked him if we could extend the front a little to make a small porch landing and my husband really went with the idea. We met up at Home Depot on an early Saturday morning to pick up the supplies. Altogether, the wood, nails and other materials cost around $230. The price of wood is high right now. The greenhouse I bought was 56.3" x 56.3" (around 4 and a half feet) so we made the deck slightly wider so it could be secured down. It extends and extra three feet in the front for the porch. Matthew used two-hole strap brackets for pipes to secure the base and we used velcro strips to secure the cover because I was opposed to putting holes into the delicate greenhouse cover. The greenhouse itself cost $75.99. It is a little bit of an investment, but a much more budget friendly option when you are starting out. Maybe one day I will have a real greenhouse. For, now I am very happy with how this came out and it has plenty of space for my small kitchen garden and for learning. This is a great option for anyone with a little bit of space in their yard who wants to learn how to greenhouse garden or plant their own seeds. What I have learned is that situating it next to a tree was a good idea for shade in the morning. It gets stifling hot in there! This greenhouse does not have air flaps so I have to leave the door open for mid day when it is warm or the plants start to suffocate. I'm going to get some sort of screen door to use because bees keep getting trapped inside during the day and the one time I forgot to open it, something went inside and ate my kale plants. A velcro screen door could be an option. Thank you for visiting Hill Top Cottage. I hope you enjoyed this video. You can find me on Instagram @LiveLovelyTravel / livelovelytravel
