Jeff Sessions confirmation hearing to be Attorney General happened last week. At one point during the two days of wall-to-wall Senate hearings, Sessions was asked about his views on marijuana. I was lucky enough to be watching the PBS News Hour stream of the hearing at the time, and so I captured the clips on my Canon point-and-shoot. And now, I want to share those clips and my analysis with you. During the two day hearing Sessions gave testimony on his would-be qualifications to become the nation's top law enforcement agent, testimony including his views on marijuana. Senator Patrick Leahy from Vermont began the line of questioning about marijuana, voicing the concerns of the marijuana business person and consumer. And then, Senator Mike Lee from Utah continued the line of questioning by bringing up states rights policy and separation of powers concerns. Sessions gave standard mealy-mouthed answers and side-stepped and evaded like the professional politician he is. He gave no solid answers as to an expectation of where he plans to take marijuana enforcement. And he left the door to restarting the drug war, wide open. Judging by this performance, I'm not convinced that Sessions has evolved on the issue of cannabis law reform—as he would like us all to believe. And I do think that we, as marijuana advocates and consumers and producers and concerned citizens, should be vigilant of this man if and when he is confirmed as Attorney General. So, if you are experiencing fear, concern, hobgoblins, panic, angst, uneasiness, queasiness, distress, trepidation, agitation, worry, fright, dread, dismay, or doubt; your feelings are valid. Let's not let those feelings control our actions. I used screen captures from http://www.NORML.org in this video. I hope they don't mind. I didn't ask :) You should go check out their congressional report card, though. You can see how the politicians that represent you are rated when it comes to marijuana legislation. #legalize2017 #stopsessions #justsaynotosessions --------------------------------------------- Thank you for watching.
