Welcome to another episode of Bike of the Day here at Iconic Motorbikes! Today, we're featuring an epic Ducati TT2, one of just 30 examples built for the 1983 model year. Designed by Fabio Taglioni, the TT2 was unveiled in 1981 and it was an instant success in competition. Per Ducati: “Tony Rutter, won the Tourist Trophy with a Pantah 500 SL. Ducati believed he could win the title, so it gave him a TT2 to ride and race at Ulster. Tony ranked second, winning the world title for that category. At the end of the season Massimo Broccoli won the Italian title riding a TT2. In 1982 the TT2 won the Italian title ridden by Walter Cussigh, while Rutter won again the world championship. Among other triumphs, the TT2 won a double and ranked first and second at the Isle of Man. Cussigh won the Italian title again, and in 1984 Rutter obtained the championship title for the umpteenth time.” This example was on display at the factory’s Museo Ducati in Bologna for years until purchased in 1998 by Daniele Casolari of Feel Racing srl, who was then working with Ducati Special Parts. He maintained the bike at the Museum in Bologna until it was purchased in 2012 by the vendor. Of note, at that time, the bike was delivered to Rino Caracchi (the “C” in NCR) who recognized the bike as one he was contracted to produce for the Ducati factory racing efforts in the 1980s. The bike comes with a signed statement from him testifying to that fact. Caracchi then did a final service and basic restoration on the bike at that time. Since 2012 it has been maintained in a private collection. It is featured in the book, Ducati: The Official Racing History by Marco Masetti. It is an amazing example of an important bike in the history of Ducati’s racing efforts! It also has additional documentation via a Falloon Report, and the best part is that it's currently available on our auction site if you'd like to add it to your collection.
