Here is a crazy cool King Zephyr tenor saxophone for sale from the second year of its production in 1936 (SN 188253). The images speak for themselves and show that this horn has had an incredible history. The original owner's daughter (who I bought it from) said her father used this horn for decades in international jazz ensembles, a ska band, rock and roll groups, etc. As you can tell it's been well-loved and had many trips to the repair shop. Despite this, it is in great playing condition and I've tried to highlight any repairs/damage as best as I can. There have been plenty of resolders and dents taken out, but it still plays very well. The neck has had some repair as well and it looks like dents have been taken out as well as some solder work. I don't know what happened originally, but my repair technician has just gone through the whole horn and done any work necessary to make it play as well as possible. The sound is as you'd expect from a pro-Zephyr model: dark, round, and bold. With the right mouthpiece, you can really get some brightness and edge, but it leans to a more mature sound naturally. The lacquer is very worn in but has a really cool dark look and it's very unique! Speaking of cool, have you seen the original art-deco case with stickers from the original owner's travels? This horn has seen Venezuela, Brazil, USSR, Great Britain, NYC, and many more! People really love these early Zephyr models due to the darker smoky sound that is very versatile compared to other mainstream brands.
