Beyond Grades: The Human and Interdisciplinary Skills Students Need to Flourish

Across schools, there’s growing recognition that academic results alone don’t capture what students need to truly flourish in a complex, fast-changing world. Skills such as confidence, adaptability, collaboration, curiosity, and agency are widely valued, yet difficult to develop meaningfully within the constraints of curriculum, assessment, and timetabling. This 45-minute discussion brings together senior leaders and sector voices for an honest, practical conversation about what “beyond grades” really looks like in schools today. This session will centre on lived experiences: what’s changing, where tensions lie, and what genuinely makes a difference for students. This Global Education Network event is delivered in partnership with Summer Discovery and Oxford Summer Courses, who provide life changing study abroad experiences across the US, Oxford and Cambridge in the UK, for students aged 9, right up to the ages of 24.
