In a detailed press conference, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif said the individual in question was “mentally unwell” and “a prisoner of his own ego,” adding that his politics of “if I am not in power, nothing should function” had ended. “Who do you think you are, and whose language are you speaking?” the military spokesperson said, insisting that no political narrative would supersede the state or the armed forces. “Anyone attacking their own army — does he wish to create space for someone else’s army?” he asked. The ISPR DG said the politician had previously labelled soldiers and officers as traitors and had encouraged targeting senior leadership, including those who had stood firm against a military eight times stronger. “Neither he nor his father (sic) can divide the army and the people,” he said, questioning why the politician’s sons lived abroad while ordinary Pakistanis were urged into confrontation with extremists. He said the original narrative was crafted by the politician, spread through anonymous accounts, and boosted by Indian intelligence-linked handles, Afghan media and then international outlets. He named specific examples aired on Indian media, including comments by Uzma Khan and audio attributed to a Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister. He said the reaction to the Chief of Defence Forces notification created “a flood of lies,” adding that members of the politician’s party claimed ignorance about where the narrative originated. Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif said the same political figure once advised opening an office for extremist groups in Peshawar, opposed counterterrorism operations and urged public agitation. “Will Pakistan’s security guarantees come from Kabul?” he said. He reaffirmed that the army had sworn an oath to protect the state and that “the business of lies and deception” was over. The ISPR DG rejected linking a recent meeting to human-rights issues or illness and questioned why concerns were not raised about drug-terror networks in the province held by the politician’s party. He said Pakistan’s terror-crime nexus involved narcotics, non-custom-paid vehicles and kidnappings, and required full implementation of the National Action Plan. He said decisions on governor’s rule were solely for the government. The ISPR DG also said the May 9 violence was a matter of concern for the nation, not just the army.
