This video is about two 12 inch gauge steam locomotives that were to be found at the smoky mountain & grizzly flats railway Warnervale (CENTRAL COAST) NSW, Australia. Both locomotives were built for the then public/tourist railway that commenced operations in 1977 until its closure to the public in 1998, following the local council intervention & projected financial difficulties flowing from the council's then new requirements ALSO new regulations of the State Government department (WORKCOVER NSW). The council's new requirements & regulation changes would have been financially crippling for the association & its membership, estimated at that time to be around $1 million, but could have escalated to $4 million dollars, if the council required the public road access to the railway to be upgraded, which the association would have had to pay for, as this was the council policy at the time. Locomotive number 24 was delivered from the builder EVANS LOCOMOTIVE WORKS in 1981 & number 37 was delivered from the same builder in 1984. NOTE: This railway is no longer in existence, (12/1/2022) rails are being lifted, locomotives & rolling stock in this video have been removed, other loco's & equipment associated with the railway are in the process of being or have been sold. I was greatly saddened with the demise of the railway following the property owners decision to sell to a land developer, as the last surviving member of the group of three who started this endeavour fifty two years ago, I had mixed emotions, being part of the shared experience of building & operating the railway, and my failure of preventing its destruction. A big thank you to all those who assisted us during the build & operational period & the many, thousands of families who traveled on the railway over its twenty two years of public operation, and all those who visited & traveled on the railway over its last twenty five years as a private railway, a life time of memories that will not be forgotten. The good news I have decided with another member to start building another railway. There are several other video's about the railway to be found on this channel. Enjoy. Adrian Samuel
