There is no need to install and configure Google Cloud SDK. You can just connect to Google Cloud Console and launch Cloud Shell. Google provides a cloud shell with pre-loaded tools and software like Kubernetes, Dockets, MySQL, Python, Ruby, Node.js, etc. This ease up your installation and configuration part for both administrators and developers. How Cloud Shell works? When the user requested, it provisions an e2-small Google Compute Engine virtual machine running a Debian-based Linux operating system. Each user session will get a separate machine and the machine will be deleted after 1 hour of the inactive session. A persistent disk of 5 GB is mapped as $home directory with new VM each time. Cloud Shell automatically authenticates using credentials provided to login GCP Console. Cloud Shell is a global service offered by Google. Based on user location, the nearest zone will serve the machine for Cloud Shell. VM assigned for Cloud Shell to users with ROOT permissions. You can run root level action on this machine VM machine based on Linux OS that helps you to use it on basis of your Linux knowledge without any extra learning In case you found it slow, You can enable boost mode for cloud shell. By Enabling Boost Mode, your Cloud Shell VM - from the default e2-small machine type offering to an e2-medium VM instance. In case something goes wrong with .bashrc or .tmux.conf files. Cloud Shell will be stopped immediately. You can add “cloudshellsafemode=true “ in URL to login in Safe Mode to troubleshoot.
