Hosea London Day | Mobile's Excelsior Band

Our city was born to celebrate, and the Excelsior Band has provided the soundtrack to those celebrations for more than 142 years. Hosea London has been part of that grand tradition for the last 50 years as a member of the group, and he’s been the band’s leader and manager for the last quarter of a century. Originally founded in 1883, the Excelsior Band is one of the oldest continuously performing jazz and brass marching bands in the country and has received national acclaim. To honor the Excelsior Band’s legacy and the contributions that Hosea has made to the ensemble over the last 50 years, Mayor Cheriogotis proclaimed that February 17, 2026, Fat Tuesday, will be Hosea London Day in the City of Mobile.
