Join us for a conversation with prominent leaders in the social justice movement. The racial justice uprisings of 2020 produced forward movement on racial reckoning in criminal justice and elsewhere but were met with a noxious backlash that is warping our politics. Meanwhile, COVID is still taking a significant toll, even as policymakers relax public health requirements in the face of angry anti-vaccine and anti-masking protests. While some of the insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol – and those who enabled them – are facing accountability, many continue to undermine confidence in democracy and elections. Despite considerable progressive gains in the last eighteen months, the window for progress in our nation’s capital seems to have narrowed. What does it mean to lead movements for social justice in a time of backlash? What are the implications for the way organizations function and advance their key campaigns? What threats and opportunities should we be thinking about in the coming months and years?
