In this video, I begin my journey from Morocco to West Africa, starting in the fascinating city of Marrakesh (also spelled Marrakech), hands down Africa's most exotic city. This bustling metropolis of one million is truly one of Africa's greatest spectacles and world-renowned cultural experiences, centred around its overstimulating and chaotic Djemaa el-Fna square - a true assault on the senses, no matter where you're from. This was my third visit back to this amazing city in North Africa, and I had an incredible few days exploring the pandemonium of its beating and bustling medina. Join me as I share some of the top things to do in this full travel guide of Marrakesh, Morocco. I begin my exploration of Marrakesh by tackling the famous square head on, visiting after sunset when the square is filled with food carts, fruit juice stands, and plenty of buskers and performers. Here, I re-discover the fragrant and pungent spice tea called khodnjal - an addictive elixir that was the perfect accompanient during my cold February visit. After, I sample some of the culinary delights of Morocco, from its famous tajine, to its ubiquitous mint tea and espresso cafes. Next, I explore the grounds of the historic Koutoubia Mosque, where I enjoy some fresh sugarcane juice, have my first mouth-numbing sip of Berber Coffee, and enjoy the orange trees and gardens that surround the ancient mosque. I then take you back to Djemma el-Fna to explore the square by day, grabbing a seat above the action on the rooftop of Chez Chegrouni restaurant. After, I explore the labyrinth of winding souks that surround the square, getting lost in the narrow alleyways of the ancient medina (walled city). From there, I take you to the modern Guilim district (New Town) to check out a very different (and less exotic) side of Marrakesh. After one last walk through the old medina, I head to the Supratours bus station to depart Marrakesh to begin my long journey overland to West Africa. Have you been to Marrakesh?
