Rhine Gorge (Ruinaulta) between Versam-Safien and Valendas-Sagogn, Switzerland

The Rhine Gorge or Ruinaulta is the small Grand Canyon of Switzerland. We have travelled with the Rhaetian railway from Chur to Versam-Safien. From here we have walked to Valendas-Sagogn. You see only a part of the Rhine gorge in this video. Normally it is a 1.5 hour hike, but I was filming so it was more than 2 hours. Most time you can see the river Rhine. From time to time you see a Rhaetian railway train. The unique landscape with the white cliffs is a main tourist attraction of Switzerland. The Rhine Gorge was formed by the Flims landslide 10‘000 years ago and the river Rhine. The Rhine has carved a canyon in the stones and sand of the landslide. In 1977 the Ruinaulta was placed under national protection. The forces of erosion will destroy the canyon in the following 100‘000 or more years. We have been in the Rhine Gorge on 8th oktober 2025. It is not the ideal month of the year because you are most time in the shadow of the mountains. I would recommend to go there one month earlier.
