The Chelsea Flower Show 2025 is here, and I was fortunate to attend on Monday (Press Day) before the gates opened to RHS members and the public. Exploring the showgrounds with Jon, we had the rare opportunity to wander through the Great Pavilion almost completely alone, seeing amazing things such as the new David Austin rose, ‘The King’s Rose,’ which I’m thrilled to now have growing in my own garden, some amazing mushroom displays, lots of flowers and really unusual things such as robots that pick strawberries! One of the standout exhibits this year is Monty Don’s inaugural Chelsea garden, the RHS and BBC Radio 2 Dog Garden. Designed in collaboration with horticulturist Jamie Butterworth, this garden celebrates the bond between humans and their canine companions. Features include a neatly mown lawn for dogs to play, shaded areas under a large tree, and brick paths inspired by Monty’s own Longmeadow garden. Notably, the paths are inscribed with the names of beloved dogs, including Monty’s own Ned and Queen Camilla’s Jack Russell Terriers, Beth and Bluebell as well as King Charles' dog Snuff! After the show, this garden will be relocated to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, which fills me with so much joy! 🐶 Show Gardens and Awards at Chelsea Flower Show 2025 (see video) This year’s show features an array of innovative and inspiring gardens. While the RHS and Radio 2 Dog Garden is not judged, several other gardens have received medals or special mentions: Tom Hoblyn’s Compassion Garden: A serene space promoting empathy and understanding. Jo Thompson’s Glasshouse Garden: Celebrated for its elegant design and plant selection. The Cha no Niwa – Japanese Tea Garden won the 2025 BBC/RHS People's Choice Award (hehe I voted for this!). Designed by Chelsea veteran Kazuyuki Ishihara. These gardens, among others, showcase the creativity and dedication of designers in pushing the boundaries of garden design.
