Kidney cancers are quite common, especially in older ages. Approximately 90% of these tumors are Renal Cell Carcinoma, known as RCC. Today, most RCCs are detected by chance and at an early stage on CT or MRI scans taken for other reasons. The classical treatment for RCC is to surgically remove all or half of the kidney. However, in recent years, methods called ablation, which only kill the cancer in the kidney and do not harm the healthy kidney tissue, have been developed. Of these methods, the most widely used and accepted in the world is cryoablation, or freezing treatment. It has been shown in many scientific studies that the oncological results of cryoablation in RCC are the same as surgery, but that it preserves the kidney better. In our Varisson Clinics, we have successfully treated hundreds of RCC patients with cryoablation since 2012. In this treatment, after numbing the skin puncture point with local anesthesia, we place the cryoablation needle into the cancerous tissue in the kidney under ultrasound and CT guidance. Then, we kill the cancerous tumor completely by freezing at minus195 degrees. In this method, the remaining healthy parts of the kidney are not harmed. The cancerous tissue that is completely killed by freezing is reduced in size by the body's own natural healing mechanism and disappear over time. In RCC patients, cryoablation has significant advantages over surgery: 1. There is no anesthesia, incision or stitching in cryoablation. The procedure is performed through the needle puncture with local anesthesia. 2. Only the cancerous tissue is killed, healthy kidney tissue is not harmed. The risk of kidney failure is much lower than surgery. 3. Side effects are much less than surgery. 4. The patient can go home the same day and return to normal life. 5. Recurrence is rare, but even if there is a recurrence, cryoablation can be easily repeated.
