Lavinia Bertotti, soprano Ensemble Laus Concentus Several women known primarily as singers are reported to have composed music for their own performances, although much of this music may never have been written down. Settimia Caccini is one such example. According to Jacopo Cicognini, she composed some of the pieces she performed on a particular occasion: "The music of the aforementioned was composed by the same women who sang them, [...] the second with supreme delicacy by Signora Settimia, [...] daughter of the renowned Giulio Romano." In fact, several of Settimia Caccini's compositions with basso continuo have been preserved in two related manuscripts, alongside works by her husband, Alessandro Ghivizzani.
