Kazbegi: Georgia's fairytale Russian-border town

Kazbegi is a no-brainer for those visiting Georgia and who wonder where to go after Tbilisi. ▶︎ Georgia Playlist:    • GEORGIA   ▶︎ Caucasus Playlist:    • THE CAUCASUS   Kazbegi, or Stepantsminda as it’s also known, is as far north as one can go on the historic Georgian Military Highway north of Tbilisi before Russia. The good news, it’s only a hundred miles. This is the heart of the Greater Caucasus Mountains, interlaced with towering snowcapped peaks and deep gorges and with Kazbegi a jewel nestled in its midst. It’s about nature here, with snowy (16,000 plus feet) Mount Kazbek peering down on the town and its picturesque Gergeti Trinity Church that has occupied a 7,500-feet-tall ridgetop for seven centuries. In this video, I explore the town and visit the famous church before hiking back down to the village. I also visit spectacular Darial Gorge at the Russian border, both a natural and political barrier in the Caucasus since ancient times.
