In the ongoing court case against Congress leader, Jagdish Tytler relating to anti-Sikh violence in 1984, some startling new facts have come out. The case relates to the killing of three Sikhs outside Gurdwara Pulbangsh by a mob, which was allegedly instigated by Tytler. These facts relate to Tytler's claim that he met the then Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, in the case and it was due to this meeting that the CBI had given him a clean chit. Since these purported claims form a part of the statement of Abhishek Verma, who was a former business partner of Tytler, they can't be dismissed lightly. The former PM is of course silent on this. Verma has also told the CBI that he had on the bidding of Tytler helped the son of a prime witness against Tytler to migrate to Canada by arranging Visa for him. What has also come out is that when the investigations were going on in the case, both the DIG and the Joint Director of CBI, Arun Kumar, had recommended prosecution of Tytler. However, they were over-ruled by the then Director, CBI, Ashwani Kumar, following which the CBI filed the closure report. Why? The jigsaw puzzle of Tytler being given a clean chit by CBI repeatedly is now falling in place. All this calls for a fresh inquiry, which should go into the following aspects: alleged bribe paid to the late Giani Surinder Singh, hawala transactions of Tytler, Canada visa for Surinder Singh's son, Narinder Singh, Tytler's meeting with Dr Manmohan Singh and the circumstances in which the CBI filed the closure report.
