"Mass production of the MS-06C Zaku II began in January of UC 0078. It quickly became the standard mobile suit used by Zeon's space forces. Though many of Zeon's most famous ace pilots used the C type during the first month of the One Year War, most of them had yet to adopt the flamboyant personal colors of their later careers. One of the exceptions was the Black Trinity. Around February of UC 0079, the design was slightly revised to produce the MS-06F model. Meanwhile, in anticipation of an upcoming Earth invasion, the MS-06J ground combat version was developed. The C, F and J types all look identical, and collectively they are considered the archetypal Zaku. All told, the Zaku II's production run numbers in the thousands, making it the most heavily-produced mobile suit in history. Many Zeon mobile suit pilots distinguished themselves during the Ruum Campaign of mid-January, UC 0079. When they were subsequently upgraded to the F-type Zaku II, these newly-minted aces often adopted their own distinctive personal colors such as Captain Johnny Ridden of the Mobile Assault Force, and 1st Lieutenant Shin Matsunaga of the Space Attack Force. In addition to the standard F type, another new model of Zaku II was produced after the opening month of the One Year War - the limited-edition S type, a high-performance model designed for company commanders. The MS-06S was equipped with a communications antenna, and its thruster output was 30% more than that of a normal Zaku II. This rare variant was assigned only to the most deserving Zeon aces. Two such pilots were Major Char Aznable, who won reknown by single-handedly destroying five Federation battleships during the Ruum Campaign, and Anavel Gato of the Space Attack Force. Colonel Garma Zabi maintained a limited-edition Fs model Zaku II. This was a minor variant of the F type, equipped with four head-mounted 40mm machine guns for close combat. Placed in command of the newly-organized Earth Attack Force, Garma brought his customized Zaku with him to Earth, but seldom used it thereafter."
