Many parents believe their children will be better socialized if sent to daycare, preschool or full-day kindergarten. We asked Dr. Gordon Neufeld if it's true. Dr. Neufeld: "Absolutely not." Children become more social, but for all the wrong reasons. 1) They lose their protective shyness with peers while becoming more shy around adults, 2) They become attached to their peers, at the expense of healthy attachment to the adults responsible for them 3) The loss of separation anxiety at a young age is actually a sign the child is more attached to their peers than their parents 4) When children are stressed, their brain equips them to cry less and talk less about their hurt feelings. The result is a false indicator - they appear socialized and resilient
