The sloka "gururbrahmā gururviṣṇuḥ gururdevo maheśvaraḥ ||. guruḥ sākṣāt parabrahma tasmai śrī gurave namaḥ ||" is called the Guru mantra, and is a salutation to the Guru or teacher.
