Why multiple rootstocks are important to fruit trees? Roots absorb water and minerals from the soil that flows to the trunk, branches, and leaves that feed the tree. That's why roots are essential. Putting additional roots also adds additional nutrients and minerals to the recipient tree. A tree with more than one rootstock is more resistant to disease, unaffected by drought, has better anchorage that can withstand strong wind during a monsoon, storm, or even typhoon.
