More figures from Styriwar Miniatures for my medieval army of the Kingdom of Sicily to play L'Art de la Guerre. This time it's the turn of the sword knights, which I will use as main core units. When I started to document myself I found a book of Sicilian heraldry that in addition to very interesting explanations includes hundreds of badges of noble Sicilian families. I didn't look for which families already had their coat of arms at the time of my army, I focused on their aesthetics, either by design, color, or simplicity of painting. The book is Il Blasone in Sicilia, by V. Palizzolo Gravina. It is very easy to find in various sources on the Internet. In addition to giving me historical background, the images are hand-drawn, which I like much better for shields and robes that are to be assumed to be medieval craftsmanship, than the more stylized modern interpretations with perfect straight lines and curves. Freehand painting all the coats of arms and patterns on the clothes was what made me most anxious about this project. I decided to help myself with decals to use as a sketch and paint over them. The images in the book look so good that if I had taken a little more care in printing the decals I could have saved myself from going over them with paint. Anyway, you can always tell the difference from something done by machine or brush, so it is worth the time and work it takes to retouch the decals by hand. The Styriwar figures coped well with the rescaling; I scaled them down to 60% of their original size, the highest ratio I could use without losing the 15 mm scale but retaining enough thickness in the material to hold fine components such as reins, wind clothing, etc. I reduced the shields less, to 70% of the original size. I used the free Vidnoz AI for the voice-over.
