Why are big multinational firms such as Shell, Rolex, and BNP Paribas leaving South Africa? In this video, we look at the underlying economic and structural issues that are driving company exits. Over the previous decade, South Africa's economy has stagnated, rising at an average rate of around 1.1%, which has had a significant influence on firms operating in the country. Unreliable power, obsolete infrastructure, and inconsistent government regulations have created a challenging environment for businesses to prosper in. The decision by Shell to quit its South African operations, citing non-core business reasons and infrastructural constraints, is only one example of this trend. Similarly, Rolex closed its South African office after 76 years, while BNP Paribas reduced its footprint, concentrating on more lucrative markets in Asia and Europe. The withdrawal of major multinational firms raises serious questions about the country's capacity to attract and maintain foreign investment. If left handled, this flight might have serious economic effects, such as employment losses, diminished foreign investment, and a declining tax base. Watch the whole video to find out why these firms are departing and what this means for South Africa's future. Subscribe: / @afrinative Our TikTok page: https://www.tiktok.com/@afrinativetik...
