US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent described it as a “stop-gap measure” to ensure global oil supplies continue flowing and claimed it provides no significant financial benefit to Russia, as it covers only oil already stranded at sea. The waiver is valid until April 4, 2026, for deliveries to Indian ports by entities registered under Indian law. This comes after the US removed punitive 25% tariffs on India following an interim trade framework agreement.
