This European Country Was Locked Off for 40 Years

Under the rule of communist dictator Enver Hoxha, the European country of Albania was sealed off from the outside world for nearly 40 years. Only after the fall of communism in the did the country slowly begin to open up. During Hoxha’s rule, Albania was isolated from all outside influences, causing it to fall far behind the rest of the world. But since opening up in the 1990s, the country has changed dramatically. In this video, I’ll show you around the capital, Tirana, which has become one of the most modern cities in the Balkans. Combined with an incredibly welcoming culture, great cuisine, and a lively atmosphere that surprised me on so many levels, I had an amazing stay. This video is only the first part of my upcoming trip through the southern and western Balkans.
