During the SUMP consultative meeting at Komkar village in Upper Siang district, Shri Getin Yao delivered a powerful and heartfelt speech that resonated deeply with the community. He firmly stated that mega-dams cannot be considered true development, especially when they threaten the land, rivers, forests, and the very identity of the indigenous people. Shri Yao reminded everyone that the Siang River is not just a waterbody but a lifeline, carrying cultural, spiritual, and ecological importance for generations. He stressed that no amount of compensation or Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds can replace the loss of ancestral land, displacement of families, or destruction of natural resources. He urged the authorities to respect the sentiments of the local people and promote sustainable alternatives that protect both the environment and the rights of the indigenous communities.
