SOUNDBITE (English) Tony Blair, British Prime Minister "Well, if these reports are correct, and obviously the inspectors should give evidence of what they know about that, and I'm sure they will tomorrow.... if these reports are correct, it is very serious because it would be, not just a failure to declare and disclose information, but a breach of Resolution 1441." 5. Cutaway press 6. SOUNDBITE: (English) Tony Blair, British Prime Minister "And therefore any evidence that comes to light of a failure to declare honestly, and any evidence of a breach of Resolution 1441, is extremely important because it indicates the futility of simply going on with more and more and more time when it's perfectly obvious they're not cooperating." 7. Cutaway Howard listening 8. SOUNDBITE (English) Tony Blair, British Prime Minister "There's no doubt we have to confront the issue of North Korea, but let nobody be in any doubt: if North Korea is an issue (and we need to confront it, and we need to find the best way of doing that), then weakness at this point over Iraq, where the United Nations has a clear declared position, weakness is going to inhibit our ability to confront the dangers from North Korea." 9. Cutaway press 10. SOUNDBITE (English) John Howard, Australian Prime Minister "They're both serious issues, they both have to be addressed, but the clear message in relation to Iraq is that if we go weak and somehow or other walk away from that and think the problem will solve itself, that will further embolden the North Koreans, and I believe very strongly that one of the reasons why North Korea has behaved as she has is that it has watched the disarray of the world in dealing with Iraq, and if that continues, and this goes back to my point I made in the introduction, that if the world community gets its act together effectively by getting behind a new resolution, then you're sending a signal not only to Iraq, but you're also sending a signal to North Korea that the world does have the capacity to act, and this is very important to our country, obviously, it's important to the whole world" 11. Cutaway reporters 12. Blair and Howard walk out 13. Exterior front steps of 10 Downing Street, Blair and Howard shake hands on steps STORYLINE The discovery of extended-range missiles in Iraq could be a "significant breach" of UN Security Council resolution 1441, British Prime Minister Tony Blair said on Thursday. International missile experts said they found an Iraqi missile system that exceeds the maximum 150-kilometre (93-mile) range allowed under UN resolutions, US and Russian officials said on Wednesday. Blair said the overall issue in relation to 1441 was whether Saddam had complied with what the resolution said was a final opportunity to offer full and complete cooperation with the inspectors. Speaking at a joint news conference with Australian Prime Minister John Howard, Blair said he would await Friday's report by the UN weapons inspectors to the Security Council on the issue. Howard said that if confirmed, the breach would add just another example of Iraq's refusals to abide by the decisions of the security council. The Australian leader linked the latest Iraqi developments to the problem posed by North Korea.
