The crew of the mighty North River fishing Vessel the Titan Uranus under captain Mike left Westport to seek out a limit of Pacific Halibut using our signature gear with electric reels in over 500 feet of water 40 miles offshore. Braving a bar restriction for vessels under 26ft made for one of the roughest most exciting rides one can imagine. Seas were angry that day my friends and swells had the bow of the mighty vessel nose down, deep in green water more than once. On the way out we were entertained by Humpback Whales frolicking in the swells and a giant Sunfish otherwise known as Mola mola swimming effortlessly against the tide. These fish just happen to be the heaviest bony fish in the world. Using big bait to catch big fish, Steve managed to boat one Giant Lingcod and nice Halibut using Tuna bellies and fresh Shad Brian and I caught just a couple weeks prior on the Columbia River at the Bonneville Dam, while Brian boated a big Bocaccio that can live up to 50 years and a nice Halibut of his own. Mike put a spanking on the Yellowtail Rock Cod with a grub and live Sand Dabs and I managed to boat the Monster Halibut of the day using an American Shad. With 4 large Halibut aboard and a fish hold full to the top, we tamed heavy swells and rough seas to return to port safely with limits for the crew. The largest weighing in at 52lbs on a bumpy boat scale. The fish checkers at the dock told us the largest measured in at 125cm or 49.2 inches which calculates to a chart weight 56-57lbs and was the second largest they have recorded as of that day.
