Unlike the port cities of the North, Southampton has long been described as a soulless city, lacking identity. In this funny and at times quite challenging talk, Catherine Wright ask us to consider to what extent is this true, does it even matter and how can talking to artists help us understand ourselves? Catherine has been a bright spark in Southampton’s creative and cultural ecosystem for most of her life. With a panoramic field of vision over the area’s culture and deep connection to the city’s history, Catherine has the natural skill to connect people and projects together that normally wouldn’t meet, whilst also finding time to perform music, direct theatre, conduct workshops and broadcast other people’s work. She is the host of the popular IN CONVERSATION talk series. She lives on a houseboat on the Itchen with a teenage human, a labrador dog and two kittens. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
