Several Muslim families residing near Sector 70 in Gurugram are fleeing their homes, taking their valuable belongings, amid religious unrest. The settlement, which once housed over 100 Muslim families, now has only 5 to 6 families remaining due to the violence. Violence escalated in the state of Haryana after communal clashes in Nuh, Mewat. On Monday, an Imam from Gurugram's Sector 57 mosque was killed and subsequently, shanties and shops of Muslims were looted and burnt, allegedly by Bajrang Dal. In this backdrop, The Wire reached Gurugram Sector 70 where most Muslim families have migrated due to the fear of getting attacked. When we tried speaking to the residents, they felt hesitant. Fearful of concealing their religious identity, individuals are reluctant to disclose their names. One woman in the settlement is living incognito with us, sharing a harrowing truth. In the vacant homes of the settlement, scattered belongings lie scattered. Most of the women residing here work as domestic help in affluent households. Watch the video to know more.
