A brief test of the Vandoren V16 mouthpiece and the brand new Theo Wanne Essentials Jazz mouthpiece. Since I started playing tenor for about 22 years ago I haven’t switched all that much around on mouthpieces. Here’s a brief history. -Otto Link Supertone master 7* 90’s -Dukoff m8 (Brecker period) -Borb Oliver Vintage Otto Link Copy -Back to Bobby D. -Otto Link Tone Edge 7* new -Vandoren V16 T7 So when I switched to hard rubber from the Dukoff I wanted to change my sound from this really loud and projected pop sax that I had played a lot of at that time. The Tone Edge helped me and it worked fine for years, but the altissimo never felt good. With the Dukoff I could go sky high without problems, with the Tone Edge it was a bit more of a guess. So then I tried the V16 that had the warmth, a bit more projection and better altissimo. The Wanne piece feels really good to play. It has warmth, but is really responsive and has a bit more projection and really easy altissimo. On the recording I feel they sound the same, what do you think?
