A "Vidcast" celebrating the new release of Soft Machine's June 2020 CD release "Live at The Baked Potato." Inaugural "vidcast" by Voices Electric Productions, this short-form documentary, examines the current incarnation of Soft Machine--who's immense and unlikely legacy covers over 50 years of an ever changing and evolving ensemble--rock's first virtuoso "jamband" and one of England's most influential ensembles pioneering rock's avant-garde. Formed in 1966--a founding catalyst in progressive instrumental rock, and singular jazz-rock with roots in psychedelia--they developed a fanatical cult following, which has endured since their first American tour with Jimi Hendrix in 1968 to the present day. Music historian, author and producer Ken Kubernik interviews the band: master drummer John Marshall, journeyman bassist Roy Babbington, jazz rock virtuoso guitarist John Etheridge, and versatile multi-instrumentalist Theo Travis on saxophone, flute, and keyboards. Produced and directed by veteran music journalist, occasional record producer, and cloud-platform technologist Chris Hoard. It's a first in a series of "vidcasts" featuring master musicians from the "jazz-rock" era still influencing upcoming generations of innovative musicians into the present day of the new millennium. The planned two-part "Voices Electric" documentary will feature interviews Hoard has conducted with the jazz-rock era's most influential and accomplished master musicians who practice "genre blending" -- jazz, rock, prog, R&B, electronica, hip hop and beyond. Upcoming vidcasts from Voices Electric Productions will feature interviews with Lenny White, Allan Holdsworth, Brand X, The Miles Electric Band (Darryl Jones and Vince Wilburn), Billy Cobham, Thundercat, Peter Erskine, Brian Auger, Kamasi Washington, and many others.
