Back in 2016, Jia Yueting, then the founder and chairman of LeEco, announced the company’s ambitious plan to enter the electric vehicle market. In response to growing concerns over LeEco’s rapid expansion and financial strain, Jia argued that a shortage of funds was a sign of efficient capital utilization, reflecting what he saw as the company’s high operational intensity. However, the reality unfolded differently — LeEco later faced severe cash flow problems and eventually collapsed under mounting debt. Jia left China for the United States, where he continued to pursue his electric car dream through Faraday Future, an EV startup he helped found.
