Tim Harris: An inspiration to the Down Syndrome Community

"THANK YOU SUBARU OF MONROVIA/SUBARU’S LOVE PROMISE: At the beginning of each year and throughout the year there is a focus on the social and emotional well-being of all the students, and we take pride in providing a culture of care and respect. Social Emotional Learning is a part of everyday life at Beardslee. Learning about diversity, acceptance and kindness are just some of the things we want our students to take away from their education at Beardslee. In the month of September students were provided this experience that allowed them to learn just that because of your thoughtfulness and generosity. Students got to meet Tim Harris! Tim is an inspirational speaker, author and someone who didn’t give up in life, despite having Down Syndrome. Tim read his book, The Book of Hugs, to students and took the time to tell his personal story and reason for writing the book. Tim’s testament to living a full life left students, staff and teachers inspired and wanting to do good for themselves and others. Students learned first-hand what it means to never give up in the face of adversity. Tim Harris’ story of building a successful life despite having Down Syndrome was motivational and encouraging. Students walked away that day having learned that nothing is impossible; a great lesson and one they can apply to their everyday life. The students, staff and teachers are beyond grateful for the opportunity they were provided and will be sure to share Tim’s message with others. There are some things students will experience that will never be forgotten, and the experience you helped provide to the students at Beardslee can very well be one of them!
