Most great eras of architecture are defined by names — architects, engineers, firms, and schools of thought. But when it comes to much of the Old World, something unusual happens. The buildings remain. The precision remains. The scale remains. But the designers don’t. In this video, I examine why so many Old World structures — bridges, stations, cathedrals, civic halls, and entire city layouts — have no clear architects attached to them, despite requiring advanced planning, coordination, and technical knowledge. Using historical records, construction documents, and surviving architectural evidence, I look at what should exist if these designs followed a normal historical process — and what’s missing instead. No signatures. No consistent attribution. No design lineage that explains how these methods suddenly appeared, then vanished. I’m not presenting a conclusion. I’m documenting an absence. And sometimes, what history doesn’t credit tells us more than what it does.
