A double stage laryngotracheoplasty (dsLTP) is a reconstructive surgery performed by an ENT surgeon in which the airway is made larger by placing a graft in the narrow part of the airway. A stent (a cylindrical tube) is placed in the airway, above the patient’s trach tube, to hold the graft(s) in place while it heals. After surgery, the patient will recover in the hospital where the focus of care is: respiratory status, pain management, secretion management, and feeding. This video provides information for patients and families on “what to expect” after a double stage laryngotracheoplasty. 00:00 Introduction to Travis's Surgery 00:13 Mary's Surgery Experience 00:19 Post-Surgery Pain Management 00:27 Dealing with Drains 00:43 Challenges with Suctioning 01:14 Stent and Feeding Tubes 01:36 Speech Therapy and Recovery 02:15 Final Thoughts and Encouragement Supported by Department Otolaryngology and Dr Robin T Cotton M.D Produced by the Media Lab at Cincinnati Children’s (@CincyKidsMedArt) www.cincinnatichildrens.com/medialab Media Lab Direction: Ken Tegtmeyer MD & Ryan A.
