In Darjeeling, West Bengal, President Droupadi Murmu expressed disappointment over the venue choice for the International Santal Conference, saying the location prevented many members of the Santal community from attending. The President remarked that the open ground nearby could have easily accommodated up to five lakh people, questioning why the administration chose a congested venue far away. She said she felt sad that many Santals could not reach the conference due to the distance. Murmu also noted the absence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the event, adding that if the President visits a place, the Chief Minister and ministers should ideally be present.
