National Seminar on Viksit Bharat @2047: Economic Competitiveness, Geopolitics, Security Priorities & Human Capital Introduction India stands at a historic inflection point as it approaches the centenary of its independence in 2047. The vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 aspires to transform India into a fully developed, inclusive, resilient, and globally influential nation. This ambitious national goal goes beyond economic growth alone and encompasses sustainability, social equity, national security, technological leadership, and responsible global engagement. At present, India is classified as a lower-middle-income country, with an estimated per capita income of USD 2,730 in 2024. Achieving developed-nation status by 2047 implies that India must increase average incomes by more than five times over the next 23 years to reach what the World Bank currently defines as upper-income status. While this target is ambitious, it is not unprecedented. India has demonstrated its capacity for structural transformation earlier, with per capita income rising nearly fivefold from USD 544 in 2001 to USD 2,730 in 2024. The National Seminar on “Viksit Bharat @2047: Economic Competitiveness, Geopolitics, Security Priorities & Human Capital” aims to create an interdisciplinary platform for critical reflection, informed dialogue, and strategic thinking among students, scholars, policymakers, and professionals. By integrating economic, strategic, geopolitical, and human development perspectives, the seminar seeks to contribute meaningfully to national discourse on India’s roadmap towards becoming a developed, secure, and globally influential nation by 2047.
