Quick video showing one way to get a proper exposure for an outdoor scene with the A7S using the Cine 1 Picture Profile. The Cine 1-4 gamma curves nearly double the dynamic range of the camera, but you have to be very careful not to over-expose these curves. As this video shows, it you clip your highlights at 109% IRE, you cannot bring those clipped highlights down. Therefore, it is imperative that you give yourself a margin of safety by setting the Zebras at 95% and stop increasing exposure at the first sign of a stripe in the highlights. This should ensure you are getting a good exposure on your scene and leaving you room to adjust the shadows and highlights in post without degrading the image. We tend to prefer Cine 1 and this setting keeps your ISO at 100, which is where we feel it should be. Cine 3-4 are also good, but increase your ISO to 200. S-LOG increases your ISO to 3,200, which is a little high in our opinion.
