A competition between Mange Bureh and Mambolo Township Ojeh Society was held on January 10th, 2024, in the Malambay Community, located in the Mambolo Chiefdom of Kambia District. Ojeh Society History The Oje society is believed to have originated from Nigerian Yoruba roots and migrated to Sierra Leone through liberated Africans who settled in Freetown subsequent to the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act in 1807. The Krio, whose lineage traces back to the Yoruba people, have played an instrumental role in shaping Ojeh society in Sierra Leone. Currently, residents from various ethnicities residing in urban areas of Sierra Leone actively engage in the Ojeh culture. The Yoruba name for this entity is "Egungun," but it was altered to "egugu" or "agoogoo" by missionary writers. Currently, it is commonly referred to as "Ojeh" or "Oje," which denotes a social group or organization. Thank you for watching.
