Assalam u Alaikum! In this detailed radiology teaching video, I have explained how to properly prepare patients for NCCT (Non-Contrast CT) and CECT (Contrast Enhanced CT) procedures. Proper patient preparation is very important for accurate diagnosis, patient safety, and high-quality CT images. This video is very useful for Radiology students, CT technologists, X-ray technicians, and healthcare professionals who want to understand standard CT scan preparation protocols used in radiology departments. 🔹 NCCT (Non-Contrast CT) Patient Preparation NCCT is performed without IV contrast injection and is commonly used in many emergency and routine cases. Basic Requirements • Confirm patient identity • Take proper clinical history • Remove all metallic objects • Explain breathing instructions to the patient • Check previous imaging or reports • Ensure proper patient positioning NCCT Abdomen Preparation For abdominal CT studies, oral contrast (flow) may be given. • Oral contrast is usually given 30–40 minutes before the scan • Helps in better visualization of stomach and bowel loops • Improves diagnostic accuracy of abdominal organs 🔹 CECT (Contrast Enhanced CT) Patient Preparation CECT is performed with IV iodinated contrast to evaluate organs, blood vessels, tumors, infections, and inflammatory conditions. 🔹 Kidney Function Test (KFT) Before Contrast Checking KFT is mandatory before giving IV contrast. Important parameters include: • Serum Creatinine Normal range: 0.6 – 1.3 mg/dL • Blood Urea Normal range: 15 – 40 mg/dL • eGFR Safe level: Above 60 ml/min If creatinine is high or eGFR is low, contrast should be used with caution to prevent contrast-induced nephropathy. 🔹 Other Important CECT Requirements • Fasting for 4–6 hours before the scan • Take history of contrast allergy or asthma • Insert IV cannula (18G / 20G) • Take informed consent • Keep emergency drugs and crash cart ready 🔹 Special CT Procedures Requiring Oral Contrast For some abdominal CT studies, oral fluid (flow) is given about 30–40 minutes before the scan for proper bowel opacification.
