Around the globe, patients suffering from chronic diseases including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, cancer, MS and are treated with medical cannabis. In the U.S. alone, CBD has seen a particularly enormous surge in interest and availability after it was exempted from federal regulations in the 2018 US Farm Bill. Since then, it is estimated that 6.4% of adults aged 45 to 55 and 3.7% of those 55 or older have used CBD at least once. Despite the growing use of medical cannabis and CBD, the vast majority of physicians and healthcare providers have not been educated on the risks and benefits of cannabis. Less than 10% of medical schools include cannabis science in their curriculum despite endocannabinoid system being identified in the 1990s. CannabizMD Founder/Jacquie Cohen Roth moderates a discussion on the Panelists will examine the current global approach to cannabis science and policy education, particularly for physicians, that is being done to protect public health and safety, identify any gaps that currently exist, and discuss how the industry can align to achieve best practices.
